THUNDER BAY — Synergy North, the electricity distributor for the cities of Thunder Bay and Kenora, is hitting the pause button on an already-approved increase in the amount it charges for delivery.
In an announcement Monday, the utility said the Ontario Energy Board has okayed a small increase that would normally take effect on May 1, 2020.
However, "to provide relief and help customers during this time," Synergy North said it will delay the increase to Nov. 1, 2020.
The savings for residential customers will amount to 88 cents a month, assuming typical useage of 750 kilowatt hours

For small business customers, the savings will be $2.37 cents a month on a typical bill for 2000 kilowatt hours.
The postponed increases amount to 0.6 per cent and 0.65 per cent respectively.
Delivery rates are separate from the cost of electricity use.
Earlier this month, the Ontario Energy Board announced that winter Time of Use prices will continue beyond May 1, when summer Time of Use pricing usually kicks in.
