THUNDER BAY – Joshua Lehto is coming home.

The Thunder Bay-born forward on Monday was the first recruit announced for the upcoming OUA hockey season by the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

The 21-year-old spent last season playing for the Bismarck Bobcats of the North American Hockey League, winning a title while scoring 12 goals and 37 points in 57 regular season games. Lehto, who is a graduate of the Thunder Bay Kings program, spent the previous two seasons with the Virden Oil Capitals of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, putting up 45 goals in 113 appearances.

"We're incredibly excited to welcome Josh to our program. His skill set, combined with his championship experience and leadership qualities, make him a valuable asset. Josh has the ability to make an immediate impact, and his return to Thunder Bay is a great story for our community,” said LU coach Andrew Wilkins, in a release posted to the team’s website.

Lehto won the MJHL sportsmanship award and was a second-team all-star.
