NORTH YORK, Ont. – The Lakehead Thunderwolves will open the post-season with home-ice advantage.

Which round they’ll start in remains up in the air.

Keighan Gerrie scored three times on Friday night, giving him 12 in his rookie campaign, leading Lakehead to a 5-3 road win over the York Lions. The win secured a spot in the top four in the OUA West, which automatically means a home-ice advantage in Round 1 or Round 2.

The Thunderwolves (16-6-3) remain a point up on Brock and two behind Windsor, in second place in the conference. The top two teams get first-round byes, while the teams finishing in third and fourth getting home-ice advantage in the opening round.

Gerrie scored once in the first, once in the second and once more in the third into the empty net, stretching LU’s lead to 5-2 with 1:20 to go in regulation.

Spencer Blackwell scored the other Lakehead goal, opening a 2-0 lead on the Lions with 4:22 left in the first.

C.J. Clarke scored twice for York (11-12-1), with a single going to Benjamin Evanish, who knotted the score 2-2 10 seconds into the second.

Christian Cicigoi picked up the win in nets, making 32 saves for the Thunderwolves, while Carter Derhyenko took the loss, also making 32 saves.

Lakehead travels to St. Catharines on Saturday to take on the Badgers, with a chance to open a three-point lead over the Badgers in the race for the bye. A win would also assure Lakehead no worse than third place.
