Despite having a conciliator in the room, the city and the union representing transit workers are no closer to a deal.
Talks stalled late Wednesday afternoon between the two sides with no new dialogue planned. About 170 members of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 966 have been without a contract since June 30, 2012.
ATU Union officials say the members are trying to get a fair deal and that includes a wage hike.
The union also says their members are the 2nd lowest paid transit drivers in the province and are at times forced to deal with violence.
It's been nearly 30 years since the last transit strike in Thunder Bay. Still some who rely on the bus are hoping a deal is reached soon.
Local 966 President Sheila Kivisto says she doesn't know where things will go from here. The conciliator was only in the city for one day. Despite members voting 99 percent in favour of taking strike action, no labour stoppage is currently planned.
Kivisto says she's aware Mayor Keith Hobbs placed a bet on the labour negotiations ending peacefully on his facebook page. Kivisto says she's not a betting person.
