Tattoo hobbyists pass Health Unit inspection

Two local tattoo enthusiasts hope to have their names cleared, now that they've passed an inspection from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

Two local tattoo enthusiasts hope to have their names cleared, now that they've passed an inspection from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

Taisha Rose and Andy Hrycyshyn had their names released to the media last week, following a complaint to the health unit.  The couple was ordered to stop providing tattoos to people without a proper health unit inspection.

They've now passed an inspection as of Monday, and the couple is officially listed as being in compliance with all tattooing regulations.

Hrycyshyn said they didn't know an inspection was necessary, because they're currently tattooing only as a hobby.
The couple added that they're not upset about being required to have an inspection.

Health Unit infectious disease manager Darlene Binette said anyone engaging in tattooing must be inspected beforehand, even if they are not in business.

And she added that they generally don't issue media releases about people who pass inspections after they are red-flagged.
