Tbaytel announces Kenora fibre optic project

Subscribers will have access to full suite of services including landline phone, internet, TV and security.

KENORA, ON — Tbaytel is embarking on a regional expansion project that will result in the completion of a new state-of-the-art fibre optic network in Kenora.

The network will allow the Thunder Bay-based telecommunications provider to deliver a full suite of wired services to residential and business customers in Kenora, including high-speed internet, landline telephone, security and TV.

Tbaytel has provided wireless service to Kenora for about a dozen years.

"We are thrilled to now be working towards the goal of expanding our offering to provide a fully connected home or business experience to our customers here," CEO Dan Topatigh said at a news conference in Kenora on Monday.

Kenora Mayor Daniel Reynard said having a state-of-the-art fibre network will benefit businesses and help grow the city's economy.

Tbaytel will work on the infrastructure development phase of the expansion throughout the coming year, and expects to be able to provide the new services to customers in 2020.

It also plans to expand the fibre network to the Keewatin portion of Kenora once the first phase is completed.
