THUNDER BAY — Tbaytel is cautioning customers about a fraudulent text message.
On its Facebook page, the phone company says some customers are receiving a text that claims they have a credit on their Tbaytel account.
The message is a fake.
The company says it does not text its customers about credits on their accounts.
"Tbaytel does not ask for personal information or transfer funds through text messages," it says.
The company advises anyone who receives similar suspicious messages to avoid clicking on links and to delete the message immediately.
A Tbaytel spokesperson told Tbnewswatch on Tuesday that the company was not aware of any customers who have reported falling victim to the scam.
She noted that this type of fraudulent activity has become more common in all sectors, not just telecoms.
The spokesperson said customers may contact Tbaytel's Customer Care department at any time if they wish to validate the status of their accounts.
