THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced five new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday morning.

Four of the cases are in Thunder Bay or the surrounding townships, while the fifth is in a community in the district.

All the individuals involved are self-isolating.

The TBDHU said three cases are the result of close contact with an infected person.

One case is listed as "no known exposure," while the fifth is still under investigation.

An analysis of TBDHU data shows a wide age range among the new cases.

Two of the five people are 20 to 29 years old, one is 40 to 49, and two are over 70.

There are currently 93 active COVID-19 cases in the TBDHU's catchment area, one fewer than on Sunday.

So far during the pandemic, four people have died.

Two patients are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
