Tbnewswatch.com was awarded second place for innovation in a provincial newspaper contest.

The website, which launched in March 2009 and replaced the former tbsource.com, was recently named runner up in the Ontario Community Newspaper Association’s 2010 Better Newspaper Competition Award in the online innovation category.

The site was recognized for the changes that were made over the year, and the readership growth that followed those adjustments.

“The Dougall Media team did a wonderful job meshing revenue and readership goals as we enhanced the site,” said Don Caron, vice-president and general manager of Dougall Media. “With significant growth in both areas, the community seems to be in agreement. We are thrilled to accept this award.”

In naming tbnewswatch.com an award winner, the OCNA committee made reference to the site’s 36 per cent increase in readership in 2010.

Toronto City Centre Mirror’s website received the first place award in the innovation category, while Durhamregion.com secured itself a third place finish.
