THUNDER BAY -- There may not be fans in the stands at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, but Team McCarville will be on the ice at the Fort William Gardens wearing the green and gold of Northern Ontario.

Skip Krista McCarville, lead Sarah Potts, second Ashley Sippala and third Kendra Lilly have been named to represent Northern Ontario at this year's Scotties, the 10th-ranked Canadian team named by the Northern Ontario Curling Association after this week's play-downs in Kenora were cancelled.

McCarville most recently earned a bronze medal at the Canadian Olympic Curling trials.

Under current Ontario regulations, all ticketed events in the province have been cancelled, but local organizers say Curling Canada is working on an exemption that would allow the Scotties to go ahead without fans in Thunder Bay, starting on Jan. 28.

It will be the ninth Scotties Tournament of Hearts appearance for the 39-year-old McCarville, who finished runner-up in 2016 and captured bronze in 2010.
