THUNDER BAY – A 17-year-old male is facing criminal charges after a vehicle was allegedly stolen from the County Fair area.

Police, in a release issued on Monday, say the male, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was observed driving the vehicle by an officer on general patrol at about 2:15 a.m. on Monday.

The officer said his observation led him to believe the driver was not licensed, a fact he confirmed after pulling the vehicle over. The driver then allegedly told police he had taken the vehicle. The owner was contacted and it was confirmed it had been stolen. The vehicle was subsequently returned to the owner undamaged.

The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

He appeared in court on Monday and was remanded into custody.
