Teen dies in highway collision

A 17-year-old Thunder Bay man is dead following a collision Sunday between van and a tractor trailer in Kakabeka Falls. Thunder Bay OPP are investigating the crash, which occurred around 4:50 a.m.

A 17-year-old Thunder Bay man is dead following a collision Sunday between van and a tractor trailer in Kakabeka Falls.   

Thunder Bay OPP are investigating the crash, which occurred around 4:50 a.m. near the intersection of Pineview Road and Highway 11/17.

The Chevrolet Uplander van, driven by the teen, was traveling eastbound on the highway, police said in a release.
The young driver died at the scene. Neither the truck driver nor the co-driver were injured.

Charges are not expected to be laid, police said.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next-of-kin and further investigation .

Highway 11-17 was closed for several hours on Sunday, reopening late in the afternoon.
