SANDY LAKE FIRST NATION -- A Pelican Falls First Nation High School student struck by a train earlier this week remains in critical condition in a London, Ont. hospital.

Kurtis Rae-Kakegamic of Sandy First Nation was struck near his school.

Community officials say the youngster is going through medical procedures and tests to determine his physical condition and prognosis. Once those results are made available, the family, with the assistance of chief and council, will further discuss his care.

In a release issued by Sandy Lake First Nation, the community expressed its gratefulness to a number of Aboriginal and government leaders for helping them through such a difficult time.

“On behalf of Curtis’ family, we are overwhelmed with the amount of support, concern and prayers during this difficult time. A prayer service will be held on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the Pelican Falls First Nation High School as well as during the Sandy Lake First Nation annual Gospel Jambouree that will be broadcasted on Wawatay Radio Network,” the release states.
