THUNDER BAY – Two youths were taken to hospital with injuries after a stabbing incident on Winnipeg Avenue on Wednesday evening, while a third youth faces charges.

The extent of the two victims’ injuries was unknown, but not believed to be life-threatening, the Thunder Bay Police Service said Thursday.

Officers with the TBPS were dispatched to the 400 block of Winnipeg Avenue around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday following reports of a stabbing incident.

That block is home to the Canada Games Complex, Community Auditorium, as well as some residences.

Police located two male victims, an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, who had injuries consistent with a stabbing.

Officers were made aware shortly after arriving that the accused male in the incident had called 911 to report the incident, and police were told he was also a victim in an alleged assault.

The accused, who is 17 and cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, turned himself into police without incident.

The two male victims were taken to hospital for further evaluation and treatment, while the accused was transported to police headquarters on Balmoral Street.

He faces two charges of aggravated assault.

The accused appeared in bail court on Thursday, and was released with conditions and a future appearance date.
