Texting scam targets former Kenora Hydro customers

THUNDER BAY – Synergy North is warning customers of a texting scam targeted at former Kenora Hydro customers.

Synergy North has been made aware of a fraudulent text being sent to customers claiming to be the former utility stating funds are being sent due to a system billing error, followed by a web link. Earlier this year, Kenora Hydro merged to become Synergy North, with all accounts have been transitioned over to the new company.

Customers are also advised that Synergy North does not contact customers regarding account balances via text message. If customers have received this text message they are encouraged not click the link, or provide any personal information and to report it to the local police.
