IGNACE, Ont. – Three suspects in a string of Thunder Bay robberies have been apprehended by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) after attempting to flee arrest on Highway 17. The three southwestern Ontario residents now face a number of charges.

OPP officers from the Ignace and Dryden detachments made the arrests Thursday, Feb. 13. Police say they were notified that the three individuals were believed to be travelling westbound on Highway 17 in two separate vehicles.

One suspect vehicle fled after officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in Corman township. Police later stopped the vehicle after it had turned eastbound, using a spike belt. The driver lost control, ending up inoperable in a ditch, where they were arrested.

The second vehicle was observed in Skey Township. When police again moved to deploy a spike belt, the driver attempted to avoid it, striking a police cruiser and tractor trailer unit. The two occupants fled on foot after their vehicle entered a ditch, but were arrested a short distance away.

One officer sustained what the OPP describe as minor injuries, and was treated at the Dryden Regional Health Centre. All three vehicles involved in the collision were also damaged.

All three suspects now face a charge of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, while each also faces additional charges.

Dawn Janman, 29, of Goderich, Ontario, faces additional charges of flight from a peace officer and driving while under suspension.

Cyle Vanbynen, 27, of London, Ontario faces additional charges of impaired driving, failure to comply with demand, flight from a peace officer, and failure to comply with a release order.

A 28-year-old of London, Ontario, faces one additional charge of failure to comply with a release order.

The three are being held in custody, and are expected to appear in court in Sioux Lookout on Feb. 18.
