FORT FRANCES, Ont. – A third resident has tested positive for COVID-19 at the Rainycrest long-term care home in Fort Frances.

The home, operated by Riverside Health Care, first declared an outbreak on Jan. 2, after a single resident tested positive. A second resident tested positive on Jan. 9.

One of those cases was resolved as of Saturday, the health agency said, while weekly surveillance testing of staff had revealed no additional cases.

The home implemented additional infection control and prevention measures following the first positive result, Riverside said, including more frequent testing and barring visitors to the home, except in end-of-life situations.

"Riverside acknowledges how emotionally difficult and challenging this news is," the group said in a release. "We assure you the care and safety of our residents, team memnbers, and families remain a top priority."

There were 24 active cases of COVID-19 in the Northwestern Health Unit's Rainy River region, which includes Fort Frances, as of Friday.
