The first batch of incumbents have officially stepped forward in their re-election bids.

Joe Virdiramo, Brian McKinnon and Aldo Ruberto registered their candidacy on Monday, becoming the first sitting councillors to throw their names in the hat.

Virdiramo is the first candidate to declare out of Westfort while McKinnon joins David George Noonan in the Red River race. Ruberto is the second in the at-large pool after Kimberly Coreau registered last week.

The other candidate to officially register on Monday was David Polhill in the Northwood Ward, who was narrowly defeated by incumbent Mark Bentz in 2010. Shelby Ch’ng has also registered in Northwood.

There has yet to be a registered candidate in the mayoral race.

The final day for nominations is Sept. 12.
