THUNDER BAY – Even if you can’t make it to a ceremony, it’s important to mark Remembrance Day.
With three ceremonies taking place on Wednesday in Thunder Bay to honour the nation’s military veterans, Royal Canadian Legion Port Arthur Branch 5 president Robert Cutbush is asking people to take a brief pause during the moment of silence.
“It’s a day of remembrance and a time of reflection. Respect the two-minute silence at 11 a.m.,” Cutbush said.
“Even if you can’t attend the ceremony and you’re at work, if you can just stop for two minutes and observe the two-minute silence at 11 a.m. that would be much appreciated.”
The north side ceremony will be held at Waverley Park, the site of the cenotaph, beginning shortly after 10 a.m. with the parade starting at 10:20 a.m. with firing party and flyover at 11 a.m.
Cutbush is anticipating about 3,000 people to attend that service.
The south side ceremony will be taking place inside the Fort William Gardens with the door opening at 10 a.m. and people asked to be seated by 10:30 a.m.
A ceremony will also be held at the Mount McKay Scenic Lookout, which will honour the contributions made by Aboriginal soldiers during the First World War, Second World War as well as the Korean War and the war in Afghanistan.
