Two of three COVID-19 cases are mine-related

Total cases up to 49 in Thunder Bay District, 22 of which have been resolved.

THUNDER BAY – Two of  three COVID-19 cases announced Thunder Bay District Health Unit region are related to an outbreak at the Lac Des Iles Mine.

The health unit on Friday announced the cases, which brings their total to 49.

A man in his 50s in the Thunder Bay and surrounding area and a man in his 40s listed as residing in a district community are the two cases related to the mine. 

A third case, a man in his 20s residing in the Thunder Bay area, is listed as a close contact case. 

Twenty-two of the 49 cases are listed as resolved.

The latest cases brings the number of cases related to Lac Des Iles Mine to 14. A second mine-related case in Atikokan was announced by the Northwest Health Unit. 

The NWHU also announced a case in Kenora, which they said was out-of-province travel-related.
