MARATHON – A trio of lead-footed drivers this weekend learned the hard way to lighten the load on the gas pedal.
Ontario Provincial Police say in a span of less than 17 hours they pulled over three different vehicles and laid stunt-driving charges against the person behind the wheel.
Police, in a release issued late Sunday night, say the high-speed highway high jinks began 32 minutes into Saturday, when officers observed a pick-up truck speeding on Highway 17 near Lecour Township. They clocked the 31-year-old male driver going 145 kilometres an hour in a 90-kilometre zone.
Later that afternoon, at about 1:41 p.m., police saw a luxury car traveling at a high rate of speed along the same highway, near Highway 614.
The 36-year-old driver from Toronto was also found to be going 145 kilometres an hour.
Finally, at about 5:06 p.m. a third driver, this one a 22-year-old male from Calgary, was recorded going 151 kilometres an hour through the same area in which the second driver had been pulled over.
All three were charged with stunt driving, had their licenses suspended and their vehicles were towed on the spot and will be impounded for seven days.
The OPP reminds motorists to contact police to report aggressive and unsafe driving.
