THUNDER BAY – Three years after a stillborn infant’s body was found on the banks of the Neebing River, police are still no closer to uncovering the mother’s identity.

The newborn girl’s body was located on May 5, 2014. A thorough investigation followed in an attempt to establish her identity.

Police say no one came forward to claim the infant, who was near full-term when born.

In September 2016 the girl was laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The regional coroner, Michael Wilson, has not been able to identify the infant, and thus has not been able to speak to the family.

Wilson is asking the mother, or anyone who might have information to help identify the infant, to come forward, to provide answers and to offer support to the child’s mother.

Police say the death remains a coroner’s investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Regional Coroner’s Office at 343-7663 or Thunder Bay Police Service at 684-1200.
