THUNDER BAY -- Lenora Pauluik wants to scratch rappeling down the side of a 14-storey building off of her bucket list.
The 79-year-old will have that chance Aug. 14 when she plans to participate in the 2014 Easter Seals Drop Zone by rappeling down the side of Maplecrest Towers.
"I go by here quite often and I look at the building and think 'that's high, that's high,'" she said Friday at the event's launch outside the Beverly Street apartment building.
"If I don't do it now, I'll never do it and I'll say I wish I had."
This won't be the first item Pauluik has tackled on her bucket list. She's already zip-lined in Jamaica and Haiti and after the Drop Zone, she wants to try parasailing and maybe even skydiving.
She wanted to try the Drop Zone last year, but waited too long and missed her chance.
"When I saw it again this year, I thought, 'that's it. I'm going to do it,'" she said.
While she wouldn't label herself a thrill-seeker, Pauluik, who turns 80 in September, said she enjoys taking a leap now and then.
"Heights don't bother me and I'll just see what happens when I get up top," she said.
This will be the second time Amy Rusak will take part in the Drop Zone.
Rusak, who uses a scooter to get around, said coming down the side of the building last year was absolutely fantastic.
"It was amazing. I felt like I was flying," she said.
Also the Easter Seals spokeswoman, Rusak was dressed as the Barrier Breaker, a superhero of her own invention who breaks physical and attitudinal barriers everywhere she goes.
She said all the money raised through the event goes to Easter Seals to help families purchase equipment for their children.
"There are lot of families that have kids with disabilities and the equipment they have to purchase like chairs and standers gets very expensive," said Rusak.
"This is a great way to help those families out and it gives the kids the opportunity to go to summer camp and participate in other activities that non-disabled kids can do."
Participants need to raise $1,000 minimum and last year's event raised $45,000 for Easter Seals.
This year, people can sell raffle tickets to help fundraise. The prizes include two tickets to any Porter Airlines destination and a Best Western travel card, a helicopter tour of the Thunder Bay area from WiskAir Helicopters, a Eureka camping package from Gear Up for Outdoors and monthly dinner for a year at Kelsey's Restaurant or Montana's Cookhouse.
