Thunder Bay braces for another dump of fresh snow

Environment Canada currently expects 10 to 20 centimetres

THUNDER BAY — Old man winter continues to keep a tight grip on Northwestern Ontario.

On the heels of 40-plus centimetres of wet snow last week, temperatures in recent days have fallen well below normal for this time of year.

The temperature at Thunder Bay Airport fell to -24 C. at 8 a.m. Monday, the lowest for Mar. 28 since at least 1942.

Temperatures will turn back toward normal Tuesday, but another low-pressure system is close behind.

It's expected to drop 10 to 20 centimetres of fresh show and ice pellets on the Thunder Bay from late Tuesday night into Wednesday evening.

That's according to Environment Canada.

The Weather Network and Accuweather both say there's potential for higher amounts.

Environment Canada meteorologist Jean-Philippe Bégin doesn't expect the new snowfall to be as dense as the snow that clogged up city streets and sidewalks last week.

The federal agency will fine-tune the forecast for this system on Tuesday.

Begin said that at this point there are no other snowstorms on the near horizon after this one.
