THUNDER BAY — The makeup of the next board of trustees for the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board will be announced in about three weeks.

The results will be made public after English-language separate school board ratepayers in the Municipality of Shuniah are given a new opportunity to cast their ballots, starting next week.

The board election, only in Shuniah, was invalidated because of a flawed ballot that excluded the name of candidate Matt Pearson.

When the error was discovered, an emergency was declared under the Municipal Elections Act, and all ballots related to the Catholic board election in Thunder Bay and the surrounding townships were sealed and secured.

Under provincial law, the City of Thunder Bay is responsible for receiving and tabulating all school board election results in the nearby municipalities.

Thunder Bay city clerk and returning officer Krista Power was informed Wednesday by Shuniah's clerk and returning officer, Kerry Bellamy, that arrangements have now been made to resume the election.

Bellamy said the voting period will start on Nov. 7 at 9 a.m. and continue until Nov. 21 at 8 p.m.

She said Shuniah residents will receive their new voter information letters in the mail shortly.

Power announced that the ballots for all municipalities will be tabulated on Nov. 22, after which the results will be released to the public.

No results of voting for the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board will be shared with candidates or scrutineers until Shuniah completes its election.
