THUNDER BAY – The City of Thunder Bay is once again celebrating the individuals that continue to make its crossing guard program a success with the 14th annual Crossing Guard Appreciation Day on Friday, June 7.

The crossing guard program has been in place since 1947. Currently, 65 crossing guards are employed at the City of Thunder Bay.

Help us recognize the individuals across our city, whose assistance helps young residents with their safe daily commutes to and from school by adhering to the following:

· Stop when a School Crossing Guard raises his or her stop sign
· Take notice of whether a Guard is on duty and slow down when approaching school crossing locations
· Obey the law. Remain stopped until all children AND the Guard have completely exited the roadway
· Proceed with caution – obey posted speed limits, and observe all NO Stopping and NO Parking signs – park in designated areas only

“The Crossing Guard program is very important for our community,” said Michelle Riemer, Field Supervisor – Crossing Guards. “Our crossing guards provide safe crossing of busy City streets for students throughout Thunder Bay, all-year-round, rain or shine. We appreciate their hard work and dedication and we are pleased to recognize our crossing guards through this annual appreciation day.”
