THUNDER BAY — For the first time in more than two months, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the District of Thunder Bay has reached double digits.
The district health unit on Monday reported six new confirmed cases, bringing the active case count to 10.
It hasn't been this high since June 25, when the count was also 10.
The TBDHU said all six of the new cases involve residents of the City of Thunder Bay or surrounding townships.
Two of the cases involve travel outside Northwestern Ontario, one is a close contact with an infected individual, and three have no known sources of exposure.
The health unit reported that no district residents are currently being treated for COVID-19 in hospital.
However Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Monday afternoon reported that it has two active COVID-19 cases.
The hospital's COVID data may include patients from outside the Thunder Bay district, whereas the TBDHU's statistics do not.
In the western part of the region, the Northwestern Health Unit based in Kenora reported one new positive COVID-19 test result on Monday.
There are currently six active cases in the NWHU's service area.
