THUNDER BAY — Sun worshippers can look forward to August starting off with more of the same kind of ideal summer weather Thunder Bay has enjoyed since the beginning of July.
Environment Canada predicts that August will begin with several days of sunshine and at least four straight days of temperatures in the high-to-mid twenties, from Wednesday to Sunday.
Meteorologist Peter Kimbell noted on Monday that this July has been one of the warmest in the city in recent memory.
The average daily high temperature so far is 26.7 C compared with the long-term average of only 24.
The mean temperature for the month to date is 19.4, almost two degrees higher than normal.
The year 2012 is the last time that city residents experienced a July with similar weather.
Kimbell observed that despite the extended stretches of warm weather, the monitoring equipment at Thunder Bay Airport has not officially recorded any days this month when the thermometer reached 30 degrees.
Normally, the city achieves that mark at least twice in July.
"We've had a lot of consistently high temperatures, but fortunately nothing that hot," Kimbell said.
