THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 300 block of Dawson St. at approximately 1:10 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The first TBFR unit arrived on scene reporting smoke and flames showing from a second-floor window. This prompted an additional alarm to bring more resources to the incident.

The initial Pumper crew deployed a 45mm attack line and brought the fire under control.

The lone occupant self-evacuated prior to TBFR arrival.

Multiple units remained on scene to overhaul the involved areas to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

Six Pumpers, an Aerial Ladder and a Command vehicle were dispatched to this alarm but due to quick response and rapid water application, the fire was contained to the contents of the room on the second floor and did not spread to the structural components of the home.

TBFR would like to remind the public to ensure they have working smoke alarms on all levels of their home, as well as to exercise caution with the extinguishment and disposal of smoking materials.
