THUNDER BAY — If Environment Canada's extended weather forecast holds true, many Thunder Bay residents will likely head to the water or turn on their air conditioners in the days ahead.

After showers overnight Friday, a large ridge of high pressure is expected to enter the region, bringing temperatures from the high 20s into the 30 degree range.

"Starting Sunday in particular, the entire week next week, the last couple of June and the first part of July, just hot weather, a massive high pressure system providing sunny skies, so a really great time to be at the lake," meteorologist Peter Kimbell said Wednesday.

Kimbell said Thunder Bay's temperature will reach 30 C for a stretch of "probably multiple days" starting Monday.

The normal daily maximum at the end of June and beginning of July is only 22 C.

Canadian and American long-range weather forecasts currently also point to hotter than normal weather throughout the month of July in Northwestern Ontario.
