THUNDER BAY — The active COVID-19 caseload in the district of Thunder Bay stood at 290 as of Monday morning.

The district health unit reported 184 new cases since its last report on Friday, and 250 resolved cases over the same period.

It said hospital admissions involving district residents fell to 16, one fewer than on Friday.

Two of those patients are in the ICU.

Among the new cases, 15 resulted from household contact, while 38 were related to other close contact, 35 have no known exposure source, three resulted from travel outside Northwestern Ontario, and 93 are still under investigation.

The great majority of cases – 171 – involve residents of the city or immediate surrounding area..

Five of the patients live in other district communities, and eight are residents of First Nations.

TBDHU  continues to note that reported confirmed cases significantly underestimate the true extent of the prevalence of COVID-19 in the Thunder Bay region, because testing for the virus is now limited to the most vulnerable individuals, and those associated with the highest-risk settings.
