THUNDER BAY — COVID-19 has taken the life of another resident of the Thunder Bay district.
The health unit made the announcement Tuesday.
It brings the district's death toll since the onset of the pandemic to 72.
TBDHU also reported four new hospital admissions, bringing the total to 10, including one patient in the ICU.
The district's active COVID-19 case count fell to 350 on Tuesday.
Although the health unit reported 40 new cases, 75 previous cases were resolved.
However, TBDHU cautioned that because COVID-19 testing in Ontario is now limited to the most vulnerable individuals, and individuals associated with the highest-risk settings, daily reports of confirmed cases will significantly underestimate the true number of people with the virus in the district.
Among the 40 new cases, seven involved household contact, seven were other close contact cases, and two involved travel outside Northwestern Ontario.
The others are still under investigation or have no known exposure source.
All but eight of the new cases involve residents of the city or immediate surrounding area.
The Ontario government reported 11,352 new cases on Tuesday, down from 13,578 on Monday.
However the rolling seven-day average has jumped sharply from 8,318 last week at this point to 14,435.
