THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay’s vaccination rates dipped last week, but only slightly.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Monday announced 8,445 vaccines were administered in the district last week, 2,514 fewer than the week prior.
However, the district did cross a significant milestone in the week ending on May 29, crossing the 100,000-dose threshold. A total of 104,078 doses have been given out, including 87,563 first doses. Of the total population, 53.8 per cent have had a first dose. Of those 18 and older, 64.3 per cent have had their first shot, while of those 12 and older and eligible to get a vaccine, 61 per cent have been vaccinated.
A total of 16,515 second doses have been administered, representing 12.03 per cent of the population.
According to the Canadian Vaccine Tracker website, 57.43 per cent of Ontarians have received at least one dose, with 65.4 per cent of those 12 and older having received their first shot.
Broken down by age, those 70 to 79 still lead the way, with 87 per cent vaccinated with at least one shot. Next up is the 80-plus group, at 86.1 per cent. All age groups 40 and older are now above 50 per cent vaccinated, while those 30 to 39 are nearing it at 46.4 per cent. The 18 to 29 age group is up to 45.8 per cent and the 12 to 17 age category, listed for the first time, is at 14.3 per cent.
