THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has now vaccinated more than 40 per cent of those eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

The health unit says 56,238 people have received one dose of the vaccine, 41 per cent of the 137,728 people currently 16 and older in the district.  Of the entire population of the District of Thunder Bay, 34.6 per cent have received at least one shot.

Across Ontario, as of Monday night the number is 29.4 per cent, according to the COVID-19 Tracker.

A total of 7,879 people in Thunder Bay District received their first dose in the week that ended this past Saturday, 18 more than the week prior.

However, the region’s overall weekly dose total was down 621, with 639 fewer people getting a second shot this past week than the week before, for a total of 8,410 vaccinations given out in the district.

At this past week’s rate, it would take a little over 10 weeks for everyone in the district to get their first dose, assuming everyone wants one.

A total of 6,501 people have received their second shots, representing about 4.74 per cent of the district’s vaccine-eligible population.
