THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is evaluating the extent of water damage after the sprinkler system was activated in a patient room.

A hospital spokesperson described it as an accident, but didn't specify what caused the sprinkler to go off.

He told TBNewswatch the incident occurred Monday evening on 2C, the cardiovascular and stroke unit, and led to "some minor water damage."

However, as a precaution, patients in that area were all moved to another part of the hospital.

Crews are currently on site performing a cleanup.

The spokesperson said a complete assessment of the damage is expected to be finished in the next day or two.

After that, a plan will be developed for the safe return of patients to the impacted area.

The hospital representative said TBRHSC staff acted quickly and demonstrated exemplary teamwork in ensuring the safety of the affected patients.
