THUNDER BAY — Some patient procedures are delayed as repairs continue to an MRI machine at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
An MRI test uses powerful magnets, radio waves, and a computer to take detailed pictures of the inside of the human body.
One of the two clinical magnets in TBRHSC's diagnostic imaging department went out of service on July 31.
A hospital spokesperson said this left the MRI program operating at half its normal capacity.
Patients have been rescheduled based on their clinical priority.
"Our goal is to make sure patients who need urgent or emergent scans receive them while we conduct the needed repairs," the spokesperson told TBNewswatch on Wednesday.
The eight-year-old unit required a complex repair involving replacement parts from Germany, where the MRI machine was manufactured.
A specialized team was brought in to install the parts.
It's expected the repairs will be completed sometime within the next three days, at which time MRI services will be restored to normal levels.
