THUNDER BAY — The number of patients admitted to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre who are COVID-19 positive has increased from last week.

Nonetheless, the hospital is easing its pandemic response level.

On Monday afternoon, the TBRHSC reported it now has 28 COVID-positive admissions, including two people in the Intensive Care Unit.

Last Friday, there were 20 patients in hospital with a positive COVID test result.

There had been no COVID patients in ICU since May 30, the first time that occurred since Nov. 29, 2021.

Despite the increase in cases on the weekend, the hospital said it is reducing its COVID-19 Pandemic Response Level from Red (control) to Orange (restrict).

This is based on the decreasing number of positive COVID-19 cases in the community, the region and the province, and on the general trend recently toward fewer COVID-19 hospitalizations.

Masking and entrance screening guidelines remain in place at TBRHSC.
