THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Hydro is warning customers about an ongoing phone scam.

The publicly owned utility say a number of customers have received phone calls from a 1-800 number demanding payment or threatening to cut the person’s power off.

The company said its customers receive a letter notifying them of any outstanding arrears and are made aware of any pending disconnection 48 hours beforehand, following Ontario Energy Board regulations.

Thunder Bay Hydro asks anyone receiving a suspicious call to report it to the Thunder Bay Police’s non-emergency number at 684-1200.

Thunder Bay Hydro customers can check their account status during regular business hours at 343-1111.
