THUNDER BAY — A Thunder Bay landlord who prevented an inspector from entering his premises to check his fire alarm system has paid a steep price.
The man was fined $6,000 for obstructing an assistant to the FIre Marshal during an inspection.
He and two other city landlords were also fined a total of $12,000 for other violations of the Ontario Fire Code.
The bulk of these fines were levied for failing to conduct the required regular tests of alarm systems, and for failing to maintain records showing the tests were done.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue says tenants of apartment buildings should be aware that landlords are required to conduct monthly and annual tests of buildings with a fire alarm system.
