The head of the Thunder Bay Public Library says he's pleased that the city appears on Amazon.ca's list of Canadian Cities that Love to Read.
Amazon examined purchases through its website comprised of both print and Kindle e-book editions, and identified the 20 cities with the highest readership on a per capita basis.
Thunder Bay is in the 19th position.
Saskatoon tops the list.
Chief librarian John Pateman says it's proof of what he already knew—that Thunder Bay is a reading city.
"The number and range of reading groups in the city is amazing," Pateman said in a statement. "Many of these are supported by TBPL. Others are formed and run by citizens themselves."
Pateman noted Thunder Bay also has a thriving writing community, with the Northwestern Ontario Writers Workshop and the Laughing Fox Writers as prime examples.
