THUNDER BAY — A city man wanted on outstanding warrants now faces additional charges after being arrested on the city's south side.

A member of the Thunder Bay Police Service's break and enter and robbery (BEAR) unit first observed the suspect in the 500-block of Victoria Avenue East just before noon on Monday.

He recognized the individual as being the subject of warrants, and called for backup.

Members of the police service's primary response branch were dispatched to assist, and succeeded in locating the accused in the area of Leith and May streets where he was apprehended without incident.

He was then found to be in possession of a replica firearm and a quantity of suspected fentanyl.

The 38-year-old is charged with possession for trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and failure to comply with a probation order.

At a bail hearing Tuesday, the man was remanded into custody pending his next court appearance.
