Thunder Bay man faces multiple charges after arrest near Wawa

WAWA, Ont. — A Thunder Bay man will appear in court next month facing multiple charges after being arrested by Ontario Provincial Police near Wawa.

OPP say the 30-year-old man was initially stopped for speeding Monday evening on Highway 17.

After first giving a false name to the officer, he was identified and found to have multiple driving suspensions.

A search of the vehicle also yielded a large quantity of cash that was seized as proceeds of crime.

The man's charges include:

  • obstruct peace officer
  • operating a vehicle while prohibited under the Criminal Code (two counts)
  • driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act
  • speeding
  • drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

In the same incident, OPP also charged a 32-year old resident of Barrie, Ontario with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Both accused were released from custody pending their next court appearance.
