NEW YORK — The National Hockey League has crowned a young man from Thunder Bay as the Canadian winner of the 2020 NHL Gaming World Championship.

Winning the tournament means a $10,000 (U.S.) regional grand prize for 19-year-old Justin 'Regs84' Reguly.

The NHL made the announcement from its New York offices over the weekend.

Playing his games as a representative of the Boston Bruins, Reguly placed first in Playstation 4 qualifying, then went 6 and 0 to capture the Canadian title.

He swept all three of his best-of-three matches.

The business student was a finalist for the NHL Gaming World Championship Canadian Regional in 2018.

Reguly also won esports events hosted by the Washington Capitals (2019, 2020) and Winnipeg Jets (2019), and has played in tournaments held by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets over the past two seasons.
