THUNDER BAY – Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a suspected drowning Friday afternoon on Sparkling Lake.

Officials, in a release issued Monday, said two men were camping and fishing on Breeze Point Island when they observed their boat floating away.

A 57-year-old man from Onalaska, Wisconsin, attempted to retrieve the boat and then suddenly stopped swimming, going limp in the water.

The man that remained on the Island was stranded until he was able to flag down another boater for assistance the same day.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted in Kenora on Monday.

This investigation is ongoing.
