Thunder Bay police investigate stabbing, assault case at ball diamond

Three people were injured in a violent incident on a Thunder Bay baseball diamond Sunday night.

THUNDER BAY -- A 16-year-old Thunder Bay youth faces charges, and a second youth is being sought by police, after an incident Sunday evening near the Canada Games Complex.

Thunder Bay Police received several calls around about 9:30 pm about an altercation involving a number of people at the ball diamond behind the Complex.

The incident was quickly upgraded to a stabbing.

Officers arrived to find three males needing medical attention. They were all taken to hospital by ambulance and released after treatment.

Police located a youth matching the description of one of the assailants a short distance away on Beaver Court.  He appeared in court Monday and was remanded in custody charged with assault with a weapon.

Police are still trying to track down a 17-year-old male in relation to the incident.

Witnesses to the altercation are being asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Branch of the Thunder Bay Police Service.
