THUNDER BAY - Thunder Bay police continue to investigate following the discovery of a body on Monday afternoon in the city.

Police officers were alerted to the area of Arundel Street near Lyon Boulevard after a passerby notified police of a possible discovery of a body on Monday, April 27.

The death has been ruled as a homicide by police but due to the early phase of the investigation details are currently limited, police said.

“We are heavily in the area right now and (police) will be there for some time doing the investigation,” Det.-Insp. John Fennell said to media on Tuesday, April 28.

Police are currently speaking with the victim’s family and will not be releasing an identity at this time, according to a Thunder Bay Police media release.

People who live in the area are advised officers may be knocking on doors while maintaining safe distances.

“Traditional ways of knocking on doors will be difficult…officers will knock on the door to try and gain the attention of the people at their residence and back off to the stairs,” Fennell said. “There is a requirement for (police) to verify if someone is home or not and whether there is any information there.”

A post-mortem is scheduled to take place in Toronto on Wednesday, April 29.

Anyone who may have information on this case or may have noticed suspicious activity in the area is asked to call Thunder Bay Police Service at 807-684-1200.

It's the city's fourth homicide of 2020.
