THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay police have released details of an incident that resulted in one officer being knocked to the floor, and other officers being surrounded by patrons in a local bar.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon at Newfie's Pub at Brodie Street and Victoria Avenue.

In a news release issued on Monday, police say officers were dispatched to the bar to locate a woman wanted for breach of recognizance.

She tried to flee when police approached  but was apprehended before she could leave the premises. At that point, according to police, the arresting officer was rushed by a male customer and "sent to the ground."

Other officers in the bar then arrested the man, but as both suspects were being handcuffed, the police were surrounded by persons in the bar yelling obscenities.

The officers, however, were able to remove the pair and escort them to the police station where they were held for a court appearance.

A 20-year-old man is charged with assaulting police and breaching probation, while a 26-year-old woman is charged with resisting arrest and breach of recognizance.
