THUNDER BAY -- The Thunder Bay Police Service says it is enforcing snowmobiling regulations this winter.

Members of the Traffic Unit were dispatched on Saturday, March 3 for an enforcement initiative on trails along Highway 61 and Highway 130.

Officers were concerned when they encountered a 12-year-old operator on a snowmobile with an 800 cc motor.

Police contacted the youth's father and spoke to him about the machine being too powerful for the boy, and about the fact he was unlicenced.

Other riders were checked for documentation, with one person being let off with a warning.

Police say they will continue to patrol the trails for the rest of the season.

The service has two snowmobiles in its fleet.
