Thunder Bay resident fined $880 after hosting event with 23 people

THUNDER BAY — A 66-year-old Thunder Bay resident is facing a $880 fine after Ontario Provincial Police responded to a large gathering at a Shuniah Township residence on Sunday.

In a news release issued Thursday, Jan. 28, Thunder Bay Ontario Provincial Police said they were dispatched on Jan. 24 after receiving a report of a large gathering of people in a private residence in the Township of Shuniah.

When police arrived, they located 23 people inside the home, not adhering to the Reopening Ontario Act.

The 66-year-old Thunder Bay resident was charged with hosting an event at a residential premise that exceeds the number of people permitted contrary to the act.

Police are reminding people to take public health measures seriously and the legislation in place is to slow the spread of COVID-19.
