Members of the Progressive Conservative party in the two Thunder Bay-area ridings were split on who was best qualified to lead their party into June's Ontario election.
According to information obtained by TVO's Steve Paikin, the winning candidate, Doug Ford, received 51 per cent of the votes cast by delegates representing Thunder Bay-Superior North, but only 47 per cent of the votes cast in Thunder Bay-Atikokan.
Runner-up Christine Elliott was supported by 49 per cent of delegates in Thunder Bay-Superior North, but won 53 per cent of votes in Thunder Bay-Atikokan.
Other northern Ontario ridings supporting Ford included Algoma-Manitoulin, Sudbury, Timiskaming-Cochrane and Kiiwetinoong.
Elliott also won majority support in Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins and Mushkegowuk-James Bay.
The vote breakdown for Kenora-Rainy River was not immediately available.
Elliott initially questioned the voting results across the province, citing "serious irregularities," but on Sunday announced that she was now confident in the results.
